Back  RFI # 1050: Date of Service in Dental Clai

Formal vs. Informal Help Informal Formal

Samuel Oyola

The Dental guideline states:
The dates in Loop ID-2300 apply to all service lines within Loop ID-2400 unless a DTP segment occurs in Loop ID-2400 with the same Value in DTP01. In that case,
the DTP in Loop ID- 2400 overrides the DTP in Loop ID-2300 for that service line only.

The Question:
If all 2400 loops have DTP/472 (date of service) specified, Can DTP/472 be omitted in Loop 2300?

This issue is explicitly addressed in guide 004010X097. Note 2 on the 2300 loop date of service segment reads "Required if all of the services on the claim/encounter were performed. This DTP should not be used if the claim is being submitted for Predetermination of Benefits."

If all of the services have been performed (as was indicated in the request) and all services report a 2400 loop date of service, the 2300 loop date of service is still required per note 2.
