Description

5010 837P Admission date is Required on all ambulance claims when the patient was known to be admitted to the hospital OR Required on all claims involving inpatient medical visits. If not required by the implementation guide, do not send.
The codes source 237 is supposed to be availble from CMS. One of the codes is 31 and it is defined as Skilled Nursing Faciltiy. Is this considered an inpatient code? If so is the admission date to the SNF a required segment?

Submitter Assigned Keywords

837P admission date place of service inpatient

Response

The requirement of this segment would not be based on the place of service code on the claim. The Admission Date is required on all claims involving inpatient medical visits. When the procedure code description indicates that the service was performed in an inpatient setting, then the Admission Date is required. Inpatient and outpatient designations have not been assigned by the code source for the place of service code set, therefore we are unable to provide direction to you on whether place of service code 31 (SNF) is inpatient.
