Description

If 270 transaction had inquiries for two patients, is it compliant with the TR3 to return 271 as follows:
- inquiry for the first patient was processed properly and it is answered with a proper eligibility information (2110C for subscriber)
- back end system timed out during processing of the second inquiry, so response is returned with AAA that has AAA03 as 42 in 2100C (and no 2110C loops)

Here is an example of such 271:

Response

Yes, the response given in the example is compliant with the requirements of 005010X279A1 in a batch environment.

The note on 2100C AAA03 code 42 (Unable to Respond at Current Time) explicitly states "Use this code in a batch environment where an information source returns all requests from the 270 in the 271 and identifies “Unable to Respond at Current Time” for each individual request (subscriber or dependent) within the transaction that they were unable to process for reasons other than data content (such as their system is down or timed out when generating a response).
