Formal vs. Informal Help Informal Formal

Description

The guide indicates CR3 is 'Required if it is necessary to include supporting documentation in an electronic form for Medicare DMERC claims for which the provider is required to obtain a certificate of medical necessity (CMN) from the physician.' The provider is attempting to send a CR3 segment to a payer without any other DME related information (no SV5, CRC*09, DTP*463, DTP*607, MEA, LQ, or FRM for example). This doesn't makes sense to us- is this valid to do?

Response

The situational notes which describe the situation(s) which make the segments required must be adhered to. The CR3 is required if it is necessary to include supporting documentation in an electronic form for Medicare DMERC claims. The other segments which include DMERC data have their own situational notes. For instance the DTP Date Certification Revision Date is required if CR301 is "R" or "S". It would only be appropriate not to send other DMERC segments if the situations described in those segments are not met.
