Back  RFI # 757: 278-Info Source/Info Receiver

Formal vs. Informal Help Informal Formal

Submitter

Description

I am confused by the terms “Information Source” and “Information Receiver” in this TR3 and request a clarification.
I’m interpreting that in our case for hospital admission notifications, the hospital sending the notification is the Information Source and we are the Information Receiver. In the definitions in section 1.5, there’s no mention of roles reversing in the Acknowledgment. In fact, the 2000A and 2000B definitions state that the roles have NOT reversed. However, within other Acknowledgment segments, there are references that seem to imply that roles are reversed and we become the Information Source and the provider becomes the Information Receiver.
I suggest that in future versions of this TR3, less ambiguous terms be used consistently (perhaps Notification Sender, Notification Receiver, Acknowledgment Sender, Acknowledgment Receiver). But, for implementers of 005010X216, could you clearly specify author’s intent so that all users can deploy uniformly?

Response

Thank-you for attending X12N/TG2/WG10 work group during our discussion addressing HIR 757. To answer your HIR request, the Information Source is always the initiator of the notification and is carried in the 2000A loop in both the Notification and the Acknowledgment.

As a result of your request, we have decided to further clarify our intentions by renaming the Information Source and Information Receiver in both the Notification and Acknowledgment to Notification Sender, Notification Receiver, Acknowledgment Sender and Acknowledgment Receiver in the next version of the TR3.
